Daniel Fortin has created more than 800 projects & show and managed worldwide production budgets
of over 400 million dollars.
With a transdisciplinary approach to creation, Daniel Fortin is a leader of award-winning visual, storytelling, brand and live performance design.
He has held the position of Vice-president of Creation of global live entertainment at Cirque du Soleil, where he led all new creations until the live entertainment industry was hit by the covid-19 pandemic. Arriving at Cirque du soleil in 2014 as the Executive Creative Director of 45 degrees, the events and experience branch of the company, his strong visual sensibility and dedication to putting the right teams together significantly impacted the range and reach of cirque du soleil’s projects.
Recognized for his unusual ability to work seamlessly between the worlds of stage, fine art, film and brand experience design, his signature is one of sophisticated visuals backed by strong narrative intention.
This was the driving force behind EPOXY, the creative agency he founded in 1992 which quickly grew to become an international powerhouse with offices in Montreal, Paris and Tokyo. During that time he created stamp designs for Canada Post, the global rebranding of Aeroplan, branding and cosmetic design for renowned Lacroix Ski in France, title design and visual effects for Hollywood movies, product and interface designs for SONY Content Laboratory in Tokyo, as well as global communication strategies and creation for major technology brands like Microsoft Softimage, Avid and Discreet Logic to name a few.
Selling his agency after 14 years to pursue new projects, Daniel went on to work as an independent creative director with various organizations including Moment Factory and Phi Centre (Vice-President of Creation), taking on a diverse range of projects from the redesign of Montreal’s Olympic Tower lighting, the rebranding strategy and design of Moment Factory to the branding and the cosmetic design of UFC Champion George St-Pierre’s combat clothing, while also creating Award-Winning stage, set and exhibit designs for clients such as the Just for Laughs Festival.
Always loyal to his roots in the fine arts and his early years under the mentorship of artist Michael Snow, Daniel has been a lecturer and guest speaker at many universities across Canada and has been an executive member of the board of the innovative ELEKTRA Festival of new digital art since its inception. His work with Michael Snow is included in the permanent collection of the Musée des Beaux Arts du Québec and has been exhibited in museums including the Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art in Helsinki, the Australian Center for the Moving Image and the Centre Pompidou in Paris.
